Ian Davenport: Quick Slow Quick Quick Slow
Paintings 2010–2011
1–29 October 2011
Waddington Custot Galleries
 11 Cork Street, London W1S 3LT

Puddle Painting: Light Blue, Green, 2011, acrylic paint on aluminium, mounted on aluminium panel, 40 1/2 x 62 1/4 in / 103 x 158 cm  Ian Davenport

Waddington Custot Galleries is pleased to announce an exhibition of new paintings by Ian Davenport from 2010 and 2011. In these recent Puddle Paintings, Davenport continues to use a large veterinary syringe to pour acrylic paint down aluminium or stainless steel panels, a process which enables him to explore diverse colour compositions. Davenport said; ‘using a syringe enables me to control the paint flow to such a degree that my focus is almost completely devoted to the colour sequences in a work’ . The ‘puddling’ at the base of each painting is created by bending and tilting the base of each panel, causing the lines to merge and overlap.
